North Central Texas Clean School Bus Program |
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) houses the North Central Texas (NCT) Clean School Bus Program. The NCT Clean School Bus Program is a
fuel- neutral program and serves as a clearinghouse for information on technology, legislation, and funding opportunities. The program is aimed at reducing emissions from school bus fleets and schools are encouraged to expedite the purchase clean buses as well as adopt and enforce anti-idling policies for all school buses. In addition, this program seeks to gather community resources to assist school districts in improving air quality and protecting children’s health.
Nine counties in the NCT area have been classified as nonattainment for the pollutant ozone by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This means that they do not meet the federal air quality standards for this pollutant. Because of this, efforts are being made to reduce emissions from all sources, including school bus fleets which are classified as on-road heavy-duty vehicles.
